that super ain't so super, it was a detuned version because the 797s were at the limit of case strength, later rectified with the CP125 which had more beans than the super, but short of the 797. The SP125s, particularly the Cs suffered from more detuning to use the crap fuel of that time, (unleaded)
the 797 had a somewhat violent power delivery and made the SPs seem like pussycats
the Cs had a chrome liner instead of fucking cast iron and sounded tinny to me

I concur, I've had two supers and they definitely had less in them than the regular 797. I believe a direct drive regular 797 would pull a 72" bar in big fir with stock raker height, albeit slowly, the super would be hard pressed at 60" and 50" would be better.

I had two 797s, a good running DSP with a 48'' and one without DSP that had been tinkered with, boost porting, different reeds and carb. At the time I didn't care, it was all blah blah blah, i just wanted to saw wood. I put a 60'' on it and used it as a bucking saw, dual spikes and all. Sometimes in a long cut, i watched the smoke for a fine spray of alloy.
We had an ahh-bore-ist show up on the landing, hi-viz fag boy with a 090, he paid the boss 50 bucks to gnaw on a big pitch ringed cull. After a couple cuts he says he would bet his saw could out cut anything we had, the boss took that bet and borrowed my saw, even gave him a head start, the boss had a smoke lit before the 090 finished. Fag boy not only couldn't believe his saw was slow, but when the boss said a bet was a bet and carried it away he about shit him self.
