And that's a dangerous thing! Has anyone ever bought a set of cases on eBay and built a saw from basically the ground up? I'm kinda thinking about doing that with a 3120....

It should be easier And cheaper to buy a used one or a new one for that matter.

Yep I have several times. If you dont have a parts stash you will end up with way more then buying used and rebuilding it. Heck I had more in a new oem crank and tank then the saw was worth once.

a couple years ago when the 440 stihl could not be bought new, i built this one from parts ,i did an 044 also from parts ,it would have been cheaper to buy a new saw and all of it be new instead of most of it,the last 440 i built i got a complete saw that was locked up ,tore it down it lost a piston pin clip ,i had an early 10mm cylinder ,bought a piston ,a new handle and handlebar just to freshen up cosmetics ,rest of saw was pretty clean had about 650 into that one building it ,had over 800 in each of the others bought part by part
