The biggest dawg I have mounted to a modern Stihl is the ones off a 045\056 series of saw. I don't remember the # but I know it will fit on any modern saw from the ms260 on up. I mounted it on my 441 on the case side and it fit perfectly, it is probably the biggest dawg slStihl makes in this mount.

You can run the bigger spike from an 066 or 046. The clutch covers are close to being the same.

My MS 390 was purchased right at the 039 to 390 conversion. It was a vast improvement from my Poulan 2900 Farmhand, and McCulloch 3816. It doesn't have a "sissy button", it could get kind of snappy when starting, and leave my fingertips numb. I had it ported, and muffler modded a couple of years ago by Randy Evans (aka Mastermind), now it is a really good cutter. Though they are much maligned, they are actually pretty decent farm grade saws.

I love to run the one I just built last week against yours. It pulls a 25" good in hard woods. 290 convert to OEM 390.

I have heard that monkey does wonders to saws. I didn't know he was into clamshells.

Here is a few pics of the dawg I use on my 441. It is off a 056 and is the same size as the oversized inner double dawg without the chain roller hole.
