Couple weeks ago the wife said we could buy some 40' cans and build a shop. We were going to build
a 36x48x 15 high wood frame but cost and permits prompted this alternative idea.

We bought 5 cans and will stack 2 and 5th will sit inside and get a wall hogged out to make a 16x 20 play room.

Trusses are getting ordered and are a 5 12 pitch and 42' long. We are also getting a bonus room truss for a loft that will have stairs from the inner container.

Will post pics as she grows. We ended up buying the 48" drop deck trailer under the red can. Will use that to haul some machinery on.

53' is the longest I believe. I've been wanting to build a hoop barn (Coverall) for a shop but people keep trying to get me to go for the cans. Problem is a 48' can here is like $2900.00 delivered. I think that's pretty steep considering they got these things scattered around everywhere. How much are you guys paying?

40' are about the same, here. Maybe a little bit less.

The theory here is there are no footers, therefore it's not a "permanent" structure and can't be taxed as such.

There was a special on tv a while back about people building houses out of those, They were really nice lookin after they were finished. Good thing is they are termite proof.

I know at least one guy that tacked hat channel to the outside and covered his in vinyl siding.

I don't know if that floats in PA. I know the Coveralls are considered nonpermanent. All that steel in those cans has to be cold.

One friend only went 1 high, he built a knee wall to support the trusses to give him storage space on top of the container.

two of those, side by side, with trusses and a roof,,would be larger than a lot of houses!!!!!!!!!!! and like T1 said,,side the mutha..with two inch pink foam sheets under!!! or IF you can swing it...have someone spray foam the outside to three inch thick!!! they then coat it with a concrete fiberglass covering!!
