Here's a picture of my steel targets after a few rounds were thrown into them. The small target was shot with a 308 from 340 yards. The target on the right was shot with a 338 lapua at 260 yards. The video is paul shooting his 308. Sorry it's so shaky. I used my phone zoomed all the way in on the target.

Thanks to Mike we had steel targets.
Lol, that is the ONLY way to go!
Btw, lol........we only got one shot at the steel with the 338 Lapua Magnum.......it hit the steel yes.....lol, but the impact was do devastating it farking shattered the pvc that was holding it up.
Good times indeed Mitch. It would be awesome if you could ever join us.

A couple of years ago I was sighting in the .22's, farting around. A friend came with his guns, .22's and a 7mm. We had a steel plate 3/16" thick set up at 100 yards, on a swinging target, it'd swing like crazy with the rimfire. He says "Try this one out..." and hands me the 7mm .... The target didn't even FLINCH, but that piece of 175gn went clean through, literally burned the edges of the hole !

That's what prompted me to order my hi-power in 7mm. I got looking at ballistic info, and found that it had the flattest trajectory and best energy out to 400 yards, just in case I see a moose across a lake or swamp. Nice to know you can pull off a shot like that without major holdover.

If I were to build a rifle for long range shooting, it would prolly be a .260
The 7MM's are very good too from what I understand.

The 7mm are doing 1k yards as good as the big 30s and doing it with less powder and recoil. The 7wsm, and 7 rsaum are doing good with 162 grain amax. A 260 is a nice 6.5 mm class that has low recoil and better ballistics than a 308.

Thanks for explaining why I was only seeing 1 shot on the 338 target. Looks like fun to do that.

I never tried metal that far away, only jugs filled etc at further distance. Got homemade metal for the pistols though.

Oh man, invest in some metal targets Kevin. You wont look back. It's really a lot of fun. And hitting the steel at 340 yds was a lot easier than I thought it would be. That being said, I think 12"x12"plate is a good way to go. If you can hit it, then a deer should be no problem. I dont think 500 yds will be that easy though lol....

At 500 that 308 will be dropping quite a bit more than it does at 340. I don't think it will be that hard to hit after you figure the drop.:dish:

Not wanting deer sized game that far out. Coyotes and Groundhogs. :bananacheers:

Ohio it's not legal to use rifles for deer, even though a lot do. I have to head south to my uncles for rifles in KY.

Check out the July 9th deer cam pic I posted already. Dad said there is a 8 carry the same wide and tine length on the land too. :yougo::yougo: To think they both got a lot of growing to go. :yougo::yougo:

Do ya see many coyotes your way?
I figure their about everywhere now a days. I'd like to set up on some one day.
Even if I just killed one it would be fun
