Just had a guy call in asking if I stock cables for Yardman push mowers.

The conversation verbatim

Me-I stock some but there's so many lengths and types of cables that I only
stock the most popular ones. Do you have a model number I'll see if I have it.

Customer-I do let me go out to the garage.

(He gives me the model number, it's a 1997 21" Yardman self propelled mower.)

Me-Which cable to you need sir?

Customer-The throttle cable, it's broken.

Me-This mower doesn't have a throttle cable, do mean the self propel cable on the left?

Customer-Yeah the throttle cable on the left.

Me-I'll check if I have one, but it's a 15 year old mower I doubt I have it.

Customer-No it's only 3 or 4 years old

Me-Ok hold on a second I'll if I have it

Me-Nope I've never stocked one according to the computer, do you want me to order it Monday?

Customer-You're a piss poor shop if you don't have a part for a 3 year old mower, I should be able to find it
somewhere today. Click and hangs up

Lets flip flop this a little.

I call the stihl shop for a 084 part and I even give them the part number. Made it easy for them didnt I.

stihl shop yep we have that part right here in stock.

I read the part number to them again and I ask you sure this is for a 084 stihl and usually have to special order for me.

stihl shop say nope we have it right here.

I say I'll be right there in about 40 mins, drive one way.

Get there ask for the part with part number given and the guy at the counter was like we will need to order that. :retarded2::retarded2::retarded2:

I'm thinking and ask who did I just talk to on the phone etc and told me they had in stock. It was the counter person. yeah I was real happy with that :retarded2::retarded2::retarded2:

Another story.

Go into a dolmar shop. The owner wasnt in. So the mechanic aka tech comes to the counter.

I tell him I want to get a 7900 air filter cover and cylinder cover.

dolmar tech goes that ECHO over there and points.

I go no that DOLMAR 7900 right there.

I had part numbers in hand, but I seen seen enough from this guy and left.

Another story

husky dealer I wont use west of me

husky dealer west of me tells me he had to have the serial number from the husky 394 to order me rings.

I had part number for rings in hand and he demanded the serial number to look up rings.

I'm like I dont own a 394 to give you serial numbers from but I do have the part number for rings. I just want a set of rings for my Dolmar 166. Well that was a curve ball for him. I just gave up and hung up.

husky east of me

So far only my local husky dealer hasnt let me down or screwed up anything I have wanted.
Called this shop with my 394 rings order and part number and got them pronto no questions ask.
Course they must trust me a little bit when they ask me in the back to help set up their chain grinder in the new shop.

This is why I tell people on the phone "The computer says we have them, but let me go check the shelf"

Because I've checked the computer told the customer we had it, inventory was wrong in the computer.
And customer comes in and then you have to deal with a pissed off customer, I hate dealing with pissed off customers.
