So, is it worth it....??

I was talking with Cale about this a little bit and holy crap it seems expensive as hell.

Motors are loud and annoying, so I've been considering looking into the lithium ion saw Stihl sells. But good grief it's expensive.....

I'm interested in the husky stuff when it's released. It looked really good in the vids I saw. The Oregon one flat out cutting cookies with the extended life battery lasted 20 minutes? He said it lasted nearly all day cleaning up a tree from his yard under normal work circumstances, but went a full 20 minutes non stop cutting cookies. I would imagine the Stihl and husky stuff is made a bit better and may last longer.

Apparently the low capacity battery for the Stihl lasts 30-40 minutes. The high capacity battery is 45-60 minutes. Not 100% sure on those numbers, Cale knows way more about it.....

And I guess there's a standard charger and a quick charger. I guess you're getting close to the $700 range with a high cap battery and the quick charger. Sounds nuts, but no fuel costs. I wonder how long the batteries last before they start to lose their full charge. I'm guessing they'll last quite a while....

30-40 minutes non stop under load? That's pretty awesome, no need for a high cap IMO. They're not gonna be built for firewooding anyway.

From what I've seen the run time on the Lithium Ion stuff is
real similar to the equal sized gas stuff, 1 Battery Charge= 1 Tank of gas

The initial cost getting set up is higher, but think about
the cost of parts and maintenance.

Take a typical equivalent gas saw.

Yearly service for a MS180
Say 35$ labor and 10$ in parts plus tax 50$ total

Gas and mix for a small saw 20$ a year

And every 3 years figure a new carburetor 30$

and figure the saw lasts 10 years.

Lifetime cost of saw
MS 180 200$
Yearly parts and service 500$
Gas and Oil 200$
Carburetors 100$
Total 1000$

So a 550$ initial investment for the 340$ L/I saw, 150$ for the smaller battery, and 50$ for the charger
is heavy on the front end, but less across the life of the saw.

LOL 12-14" beech and oak is gonna be a while with a low rpm battery operated saw and 3/8lp chain :wtf:

I'm talking long term. They gonna last 10 years cutting 10-12 cord a year? How long is it gonna take to get the wood cut?

I'm not saying te saw is a bad idea, just not a firewooder is all.

Sounds like a decent blender. Maybe no Osterizer but a decent one at that.
